As explained by Putanny and Biraci Nixiwak\u00e1, leaders of the Yawanaw\u00e1, Man\u00e1 and his wife Ratsuh\u00e1 are considered \u201c people from 500 years ago\u201d and \u201ckings\u201d of spirituality. Man\u00e1 has received a traditional training that only very few paj\u00e9s still possess today. He holds extraordinary knowledge of plants and a technique of spiritual healing that, in some cases, allows him to take the illness of his patients into his mouth and materialize it into small stones, which he then spits out.
